Introduction :
Tolerance is the most essential quality of a human being. Tolerance is one of the conditions of good manners. Intolerance leads to greatest calamity. That’s why we attach so much importance to tolerance.
Vices of intolerance :
Intolerance leads to the worst kinds of disasters. In mythology and history, we find many terrible acts of intolerance. Cain killed his elder brother Abel, because he could not bear the importance of the able in the eyes of God.
The Catholic Queen Mary of Great Britain burned the Protestants alive, because she could not stand Puritanism.
Aurangzeb killed Hindus under the feet of elephants, because he could not tolerate Hinduism. Sometimes we quarrel with others because of such intolerance. Many of our enemies are the result of our intolerance.
We cannot judge, because we are intolerant of hearing views that are different from ours. So, intolerance is a very bad quality.
Usefulness of tolerance :
Tolerance is actually a very useful quality. This is one of the basic principles of good manners. We can judge only when we are tolerant of hearing others have different views.
If we are tolerant we can properly evaluate the views of others. Tolerance as a quality is indispensable in democratic countries. Tolerance is the first condition for the exercise of democracy.
Because in a democratic country we should be tolerant of all views. We must be tolerant of thoughts, no matter how bitter. Therefore, every student, every citizen and every individual culture has the habit of tolerance.
Conclusion :
There is no doubt that tolerance is the most essential quality of our daily life. If we adopt a culture of tolerance, we will be free from all the pain of jealousy within us.
Then our soul will be at peace and happiness. The habit of tolerance should be inculcated in children from childhood. Elders should guide them in this regard.
