Honourable/Esteemed/President/Principal/Headmaster, respected chief guest/chief speaker/teachers, and my friends.

Today I am standing in front of you to express my speech on the topic “Makar Sankranti”. The greatest and most popular Indian festival.

India is the land of festivals. Makar Sankranti is one of the important festivals of Hinduism which they celebrate with great joy and happiness. This festival shows solidarity and the importance of cuisine.

They celebrate by taking a holy bath in the river early in the morning and offering prayers to Surya as sun is one of the many gods according to Hindu mythology.

Of all the festivals of Hinduism, Makar Sankranti is one of the essential festivals of India, which people celebrate with great joy and happiness.

The festival is celebrated every year on 14 or 15 January depending on the solar cycle. Everyone starts the day by taking a holy bath in the river in the morning and offering prayers to the sun god.

The meaning of the word “Makar Sankranti” is made up of two words makar and Sankranti. Makara means Capricorn, and Sankranti means transition, which makes makar Sankranti as the sun’s transition into Makara (zodiac). It is a very auspicious and holy occasion according to Hindu religion.

Kite flying is one of the major sports on Makar Sankranti. every member of the family like children and even elders take part in kite flying. The sky becomes colorful with different types of kites in the sky.
